Lewis Hamilton is arguably one of the most handsome men in the Formula 1 paddock. The 38-year-old is famous for his wide range of looks and fashion sense. However, what is often overlooked is the amount of care that the Briton takes for his skin. Hamilton seemingly takes so much care that even his younger Mercedes teammate, George Russell, has complimented him for the same.
Hamilton once opened up on the secret steps that he takes to take good care of his skin. While speaking in an interview with ESPN, the Mercedes driver said, “I have the whole ritual in the morning of cleaning my skin, moisturizing before I go to bed. Naturally, I’m training up to twice a day, so I’m having to do that multiple times a day.”
George Russell in awe of Lewis Hamilton’s skin
Lewis Hamilton has been all over the news in the past few days as uncertainty still remains over his contract situation. While both Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff and the Briton have acknowledged that they have made significant progress, there is no clear news of whether the 38-year-old will sign a contract extension or not.
As uncertainty continues to loom over, Russell has given his take on the situation. Russell believes that considering how young Hamilton looks because of his skin, the 25-year-old has no doubt that his teammate can carry on for a few more years.
“Lewis should sign a new contract. If you only look at his skin, it looks like he is 25 years old. I even have a few more wrinkles than him,” explained Russell (as quoted by motortime.es). The young Briton then added that he believes that Hamilton has a few more years left in him, and hence, sees no reason for the 38-year-old not to continue with the team.
Even though Russell sees the potential that Hamilton has, former F1 drivers such as Mika Hakkinen do not share the same opinion. While giving his analysis of the F1 2023 season so far on his sponsor Unibet’s YouTube channel, the two-time F1 champion also shared his opinion about Hamilton’s contract situation.
Hakkinen claimed that Hamilton’s “head is not 100% in racing anymore.” The former Finnish driver believes that this is the case because as F1 drivers get older, their “priorities in life change“. Hence, Hakkinen is not sure long Hamilton will continue to stay motivated as younger drivers such as Russell continue to take the fight against him.
Hakkinen questions if F1 continues to be the right future for Hamilton
After claiming that Lewis Hamilton seems to have lost interest in F1, Mika Hakkinen went to the extent of questioning if this sport continues to be the right future for the Briton or not. Hakkinen is unsure whether Hamilton has “enough energy to wake up every morning” and give his everything to beat George Russell on track.
While Hakkinen has raised his own concerns about Hamilton’s future, there is also uncertainty over how much patience the Briton has left to continue amidst Mercedes‘ struggles. At the start of the 2023 season, a frustrated Hamilton did not hold back in slamming his team for not listening to him, and paying the price as a result.
However, an outstanding double podium in Spain two weeks ago may help Hamilton once again see the light at the end of the tunnel. Even though Mercedes continue to be far off Red Bull, they did seem like the team in Barcelona that closed the gap the most to the Milton Keynes outfit.
