Aston Martin has had an emphatic rise in the 2023 F1 season with Fernando Alonso spearheading their charge to the front of the grid. With the Spanish driver pushing to the maximum and getting the better of his teammate Lance Stroll, the hierarchy of the team rests in Alonso’s favor. Reports say, if this continues, Stroll might use his father’s influence to push Alonso out of the team.
The Oviedo-born driver joined the Silverstone-based team this season after two bittersweet years with Alpine. So far, he has comprehensively outperformed Stroll on all fronts and plans on continuing this assault in the years to come. His contract expires at the end of the 2024 season, but Alonso has not shown any signs of wanting to leave F1.
Additionally, Alonso has also taken several digs at Stroll Jr. and even the team when they failed to deliver. For Stroll and his father Lawrence, who is the owner, this isn’t an ideal scenario. If things continue like this, Alonso may not be offered the extension that he craves so badly.
Fernando Alonso vs Aston Martin?
As reported by El Nacional, Aston Martin may choose to opt out of having Alonso as their driver, even if the continues performing. In that case, they will pause their gamble on experience and go for younger drivers who are available on the market.
One driver that Aston Martin has on its radar is current AlphaTauri star Yuki Tsunoda. The Japanese driver has been excellent so far this season. Despite having the slowest car on the grid, he caught the eye of several people including Helmut Marko. Consequently, he has been liked to a move to better teams.

Apart from Tsunoda, there are also drivers like Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris who will be out of contract in 2024 and 2025 respectively. However, with Stroll at the team, it is unlikely that Leclerc or Norris would want to move to Silverstone.
What’s next for the Spanish driver?
Lately, there have bene multiple rumors about Fernando Alonso getting sacked by Aston Martin. This could lead to Alonso getting frustrated, because on the track, his performances aren’t getting much better either.
At one point, Aston Martin had the second fastest car on the grid. Now they are struggling to catch Mercedes and Ferrari. And for this, Alonso did not spare his team from some sharp verbal attacks.
As things stand, Alonso and Aston Martin will have to analyze their weaknesses if they want to get better. Furthermore, some people also believe that they overperformed. Their recent slump could actually point towards where they should have been all along.
