Lewis Hamilton Reveals the $23,400 Secret Car That He Drives to Help Him Escape the Limelight

Lewis Hamilton has revealed which $23,400 secret car he drives to escape the limelight when he visits his parents’ house in his old town. Considering the Briton’s staggering success in F1, he is undoubtedly one of the most famous drivers on the current grid.

Hence, if any driver is likely to be spotted often, then it is him. His fans are likely to remember the cars he drives and all the other important details about him. Despite all of this, Hamilton has successfully managed to escape his fans.

While speaking in a recent interview ahead of the Monaco GP, the 38-year-old was asked if he still has the Mini Cooper he bought during the early part of his career. In reply, he said, “I still have one of those in the UK. When I go back to my parents house, I go and drive that round my old town and no one expects me to be in it“.

How did Lewis Hamilton end up buying the Mini Cooper?

Lewis Hamilton first bought a second-hand Mini Cooper in 2002 with the help of his father, Anthony Hamilton, after he passed his driving test. The 38-year-old purchased this car as he had previously driven his mother’s Mini Cooper, which he loved.

In the same interview ahead of this year’s Monaco GP, Lewis also gave an interesting story about how he ended up purchasing his own Mini Cooper. “I remember saving up for my first car. I expected zero help from my dad because he said that I am not going to help you. But he did help me in the end when I needed it because the insurance is pretty high being a racing driver,” he explained.

I do not like to drive“: Hamilton once made the strangest admissions

Despite being a racing driver, Lewis Hamilton once shockingly stated that he does not like to drive. However, he did have a good reason for it.

While speaking to Jimmy Kimmel in an interview last year, he stated that he finds driving in a city ‘stressful‘. Hamilton added that the only time he enjoys driving is when he is driving fast and that is not possible in the city where there is a lot of traffic.
