“McLaren will benefit from that”- Andreas Seidl impressed with Mercedes engine
“McLaren will benefit from that”- Andreas Seidl claims that Mercedes engine is the best in the paddock, and suits the interests of his team.
McLaren has abandoned Renault and partnered with Mercedes for the power unit supply. Making the Briton team the third customer of reigning Formula 1 champions after Aston Martin and Williams.
Speaking about the engine’s ability, Andreas Seidl is in awe of the craft done by Mercedes engineers and claims that this engine is currently the best in Formula 1.
“Mercedes still has the strongest and best engine, let’s not kid ourselves about that. McLaren will benefit from that,” said Seidl to F1-Insider.com.
McLaren finished third in Constructor’s race last year. Since they appear to make significant improvements, Seidl wants to keep the ball low about its team’s actual capability to avoid disappointments in 2021.
“In the end, though, you never really know where you stand until the first test drive. On paper, it looks like we’re stronger. Also because we’ve made further improvements to the drivers.”
“Lando Norris is a year more experienced, and with Daniel Ricciardo, we have a driver who has already proven several times that he can win races.”
People expecting things from McLaren
Even if Seidl prefers to keep an understatement even with recent advances, there are people in the paddock, who are expecting things from McLaren in 2021.
Daniel Ricciardo, who has full faith in the McLaren project, is optimistic about the progress the team has made and can do wonders in 2021. Whereas, ex-McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz have only positive to say about McLaren latest output.
With Ferrari still struggling, and Aston Martin still under inexperienced management may fail to convert results, Seidl’s side can end up replicating things of 2020 to have a successful year.
However, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the third position’s battle can once again be intense, with Alpine forecasting a threatening project.
