Red Bull Boss Hurts Max Verstappen & Sergio Perez's Hopes to Maintain 'Unimaginable' Streak By Opening Doors to Mercedes & Co.

Max Verstappen and Sergio Pere have been the most dominant drivers in F1 this season, thanks to Red Bull’s dominant RB19. With three wins from Verstappen and two by Perez, Red Bull have had a perfect start to the year with all five race wins going under their name.

Behind Red Bull, we have seen Mercedes, Ferrari and Aston Martin battle it out on several occasions in these five rounds. However, the gap between them and Red Bull is simply staggering. Despite the best efforts from the likes of Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, and Charles Leclerc, they haven’t been able to close the gap between Perez and Verstappen.

This led to many people claiming that Red Bull’s dominance will ensure a clean sweep for the team this year by winning every single race. Team principal Christian Horner, however, does not see the Milton-Keynes-based outfit winning all 23 races this season, which would hurt Verstappen and Perez’s hopes of maintaining their dominance.

Max Verstappen and Perez winning all races would be ‘unimaginable’

While Horner does acknowledge Red Bull’s dominance so far in 2023, predicting a win in every single Grand Prix was labeled as unimaginable by the 49-year-old. In an interview with Financial Times, he stated that the difference in circuits, weather, and setups will affect their chances of finishing P1 in every race. He said,

“Reliability, strategy, or even luck itself could play a trick on us. Winning all the races this year would be unimaginable.”

So far, Red Bull has won five races, which Horner went on to say is arguably their best start ever to an F1 season. After Verstappen and Perez’ heroic 1-2 finish in Miami last week, Horner even took a sly dig at his rivals “wondering where they are“. In several interviews, Horner insisted that he expects Ferrari, Mercedes, and Aston Martin to catch up as the season progresses.

Will Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Mercedes make a leap on Red Bull?

The biggest story over the winter break was the amount of progress shown by Aston Martin. With Fernando Alonso now at the helm, they are stronger than they’ve ever been with the Spanish driver securing four P3 finishes in five races so far.

Mercedes and Ferrari meanwhile, have been very inconsistent with their performances. They are traditional powerhouses in F1, but are incredibly far off behind Red Bull, especially in the race pace. Like Horner said, catching up to Red Bull is a possibility but considering the current performance of the teams behind them, it will take some time.

Mercedes, meanwhile, are focusing on the upgrades they are bringing to Imola. The Silver Arrows will be hoping for these upgrades to bolster their performance as they look to close the gap to the top in the standings.
