"Seb mentioned a few times"- Charles Leclerc explains why Sebastian Vettel struggled with Ferrari in 2020

“Seb mentioned a few times”- Charles Leclerc explains why Sebastian Vettel had difficulty giving impactful performances to Ferrari.

Sebastian Vettel had a poor performativity level in 2020, as the German finished on 13th position in the final standings of the year. Much is speculated about his downfall in the team in 2020 and many blame Ferrari’s inadequate management for this mayhem.

But Charles Leclerc, who partnered with Vettel over the course of two years seems to reveal the reason behind Vettel’s predicament at Ferrari in 2020.

“It’s a question I don’t know the answer to,” Leclerc said to the BBC. “At the end, some drivers feel more at ease with the rear moving, some others more with understeer. And this year’s car probably fitted my driving style a little bit more.”

Leclerc later admitted that he had difficulty with the imbalance of SF1000, with the rear of the car not being inadequate. “That was very difficult for the confidence you have in the car, and confidence in F1 is everything.”

“But also, as Seb mentioned a few times, it is a difficult year for him overall because he knows he is not going to be in the team next year and probably this plays a part, too,” he added.

Sebastian Vettel irked by Ferrari in 2020

There were several moments throughout the season when Vettel seemed infuriated with Ferrari over the preferential treatment for Leclerc in a few races. Like Leclerc, many also believed that Ferrari gave Vettel a pushback because of his known departure.

Also, Vettel agreed that he had lost love with the team considering the management’s treatment. However, at the same time, Vettel showed great affection for his crew, he even sang a farewell song for his team, after the final race of the season, in Abu Dhabi.

Now, Vettel has headed to Aston Martin, where he will ply his trade in 2021.
