Sebastian Vettel to Aston Martin: Reports from Germany claim Vettel will drive for Aston Martin in 2021

Lennart Wermke, the F1 reporter of Bild, confirms that Aston Martin are willing to bring Sebastian Vettel in for 2021. If Vettel agrees, then the exit clause on Sergio Perez will have to be triggered.

The Sebastian Vettel transfer saga seems to be finally reaching its conclusion. This after reports coming in from Germany that he will be racing for Aston Martin in 2021.

According to Lennart Wermke on Twitter, the four-time world champion will join Aston Martin in 2021. He says once Vettel accepts the offer, the contract will be presented for signing.

He goes on to clarify that a contract hasn’t been signed yet, but it is imminent.

Sergio Perez likely to face the axe

If the signing indeed goes through, then it is likely going to be Sergio Perez’s departure from Racing Point/Aston Martin.  The Mexican driver has a long-term contract with Aston Martin, but it can be voided if the latter activate the exit clause before July 31.

This would be really unfortunate, as Perez has been a consistent performer since the days of Racing Point’s earlier avatar Force India. He has started this season strongly, giving strong competition to the likes of Ferrari and McLaren.

The only plausible reason for his exit would be the fact that Lance Stroll is Lawrence Stroll’s son, the main investor of Aston Martin. Lawrence effectively calls the shots in the team, and has his mind set to bring in the legendary German.

No wonder, Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer had in the same lines had earlier expressed their interest to being in Sebastian Vettel.  It seems like his wish is going to be fulfilled, and we will see the current Ferrari driver racing for Aston Martin in 2021
