Sergio Perez Warned of F1 Grim Reaper Amid Losing Battle to Max Verstappen

The 2023 Monaco Grand Prix has been a race to forget for Sergio Perez, as it seriously affected his title aspiration. As Perez tried to get over the Monte Carlo shocker, former F1 driver Timo Glock arrived with a warning, as per his comments published by Sky Sports Germany.

The recently concluded race in the Principality is easily among the lowest times of the Mexican‘s Red Bull career. From crashing right in Q1 to starting from P2 and then having lapped by his title challenger, the weekend was shambolic.

Perez, who was trailing Max Verstappen by 14 points before the Monaco race, now trails by 39 points. With the world championship dream fading away, the 33-year-old now looks vulnerable against an agile Fernando Alonso.

Admittedly, Red Bull taskmaster Helmut Marko, who was not happy with Perez, also warned the former Racing Point driver an ultimatum after the race in Monaco.

Glock warns Sergio Perez about Alonso after the Monaco mistake

The former Toyota driver stated that Perez could no longer make mistakes like the one he did in the Principality because of the looming threat from Alonso.

Perez can no longer make any big mistakes because Alonso is always there, always on the podium, and is slowly putting pressure on Verstappen,” Glock said.

Speaking on the Asturian, he added, “Fernando Alonso, with his vast experience and the speed of the Aston Martin, has a lot of fun in the car and is highly motivated.”

Alonso is now 12 points behind the Mexican in P3. Given his consistency, the Asturian might take his spot in the next few races. If this turns out to be true, Red Bull will lose another shot at the 1-2 finish in the driver’s championship.

With back-to-back top two losses in the most dominant car in the field [last season to Charles Leclerc], things might not work in Perez’s favor in 2024. Amid all this, Glock’s warning has come at the nick of time.

Alonso seems unstoppable

The 41-year-old has looked unstoppable from the onset of the 2023 F1 season, with Aston Martin coming at his disposal.

Alonso has picked up five podiums in six races so far and is on the charge for the much coveted 33rd Grand Prix win, for which he has been waiting for a decade.

This is added to the series of upgrades Aston Martin brings from Spanish GP onwards. The good times are about to end for Sergio Perez if he doesn’t pull his socks up, believes Timo Glock.
