"I don't know what Red Bull is going to do with me, whether they want to continue or release me beforehand" - Alpha Tauri driver comments on uncertainity after the 2023 season

“Sometimes the McLaren, sometimes the Ferrari” – Pierre Gasly is delighted with the best start to the season for himself and for AlphaTauri.

Pierre Gasly and his AlphaTauri are in a happy state at the halfway stage of the season. The Frenchman has accumulated 50 points, and finds himself P8 in the standings, ahead of world champions Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso.

“I think it was probably the best start of the season I’ve ever had in F1.

“It was really successful. We’ve managed to secure one podium in Baku already this year, which was the highlight of these first 10 races.

“We’ve had great Saturdays, great qualifying, putting the car in Q3 for most races and this is a great achievement. I think on Sundays it started not as great, but we’ve managed to make some progress and managed to fight some pretty fast cars – sometimes the McLaren, sometimes the Ferrari.”

AlphaTauri targeting P5

AlphaTauri, on the other hand, find themselves P6 in the constructors’ standings with 68 points, just nine behind Alpine. Gasly acknowledges their main challenge is with Alpine and Aston Martin if they are to finish in the top 5 for the first time in the sport.

“We can see our battle in the championship shaping up with Aston Martin and Alpine.

“We are fighting for the fifth position in the championship, which has never happened for the team before. It just shows we are having a great year and it is my personal target to bring this position to these guys and this would be a first.

“It’s a pretty exciting season so far for us.”
