Ted Kravitz Jests About Ferrari and Mercedes’ “Prehistoric” Efforts in Matching Red Bull Dominance

Red Bull has emerged victorious in all six races this season so far, which speaks volumes about their dominance. Ferrari, Mercedes, and Aston Martin have done their best to close the gap, but they haven’t come close yet. Sky Sports‘ analyst Ted Kravitz has now, openly ridiculed Ferrari and Mercedes’ attempts in particular.

Many people thought that Red Bull will struggle in Monaco. This was because of their relative inferiority in the slower-speed layouts. However, Max Verstappen rubbished all those claims by putting in what was one of the best qualifying laps ever, to get pole position. His Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez meanwhile, crashed out during Q1, which made him start the race from P20.

Unfortunately for Red Bull, when Perez’s crashed car was being cleared from the track, the crane picked it up high in the air, for the whole world to see. Their floor in particular, which gives them a big aerodynamic advantage, was left exposed. Kravitz like others, got a good look at the underbody of the RB19 and laughed off at Ferrari and Mercedes‘ efforts to replicate that.

Ferrari and Mercedes are light years behind Red Bull

Red Bull’s chief technical officer is Adrian Newey, who is one of the brightest minds in the history of the sport. The Brit’s expertise in aerodynamics of an F1 car, helped him build one this year that is seemingly unbeatable. Now that Kravitz and others have seen the challenger’s underbody, they realized just how much the others are behind.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Kravitz called Ferrari and Mercedes’ underbodies “prehistoric”. In comparison, he feels that the floor of the car that Verstappen and Perez drive is a ‘thing of wonder and beauty’.

“I tell you,” he said. “When you look at these pictures and compare them to the Mercedes and Ferrari. You think ‘Okay, no wonder this Red Bull RB19 is so good’.”

Max Verstappen continues with his dominance

Over the last year and a half, no driver in F1 has been as dominant as Max Verstappen. The Dutchman won both the 2021 and 2022 world titles, and is well set on winning it once again. We are just six races into the 2023 season, but he is already opening up a comfortable lead at the summit.

Out of the six races so far, Verstappen has won four. All the talks of Sergio Perez potentially challenging Verstappen for the title are beginning to evaporate now, especially after the Monaco GP.

Currently, Verstappen is 39 points ahead of Perez in the 2023 drivers’ championship standings.
