“Here is also a bit of shifting of important people”- Former Ferrari man suspicious of AMG engineers involved in the ‘exciting Aston Martin’.
Racing Point has transformed itself into Aston Martin, and fans are excited to see them back in Formula 1, while a heavy investment by Lawrence Stroll and a driver like Sebastian Vettel makes them the dark horses for 2021.
Meanwhile, Stroll’s close ties with Mercedes are also observable. With this project looking exciting, Former Ferrari ally Ernest Knoors is suspicious of Mercedes AMG engineers engaged with Aston Martin to bolster the team prospect further.
“I think Aston Martin is an exciting project to keep an eye on for the future. I think there is also a bit of shifting of important people behind the scenes in Formula 1”, says Ernest Knoors the former Formula 1 engine specialist to RTLGP.
Although he can’t tell the precise who these key people will be involved in this discreet trade, Mercedes and Racing Point’s partnership is apparent, with Toto Wolff already having commercial interests in the entity.
Aston Martin a better choice than Ferrari
Amidst the time of turmoil for Ferrari, Knoors objectively claims that Aston Martin seems to be a better destination for anyone now, as Mercedes backing makes them stronger, but is confident of Ferrari’s bounce back.
“It’s a bit of a guess if you’re not really in it, but I do suspect that more is happening at Aston Martin than we see now, that there is a bigger plan behind it.”
“Aston Martin already has cars in other championships, and there is quite a bit of involvement from AMG engineers there. Those are things that do point in a certain direction, let me put it this way.”
Speaking on Vettel and Carlos Sainz being involved in the massive shuffle amidst the teams, Knoors thinks that Vettel made the better choice in hindsight.
“I would say that Vettel has made a better choice than Sainz, but Ferrari will emerge at some point”. he said
