“To make some podiums and taste the champagne again would be fantastic” – Fernando Alonso hoping for Mercedes slip ups next season to take podium with Alpine
“To make some podiums and taste the champagne again would be fantastic” – Fernando Alonso hopes Mercedes slip-ups can help him take the podium for Alpine in the 2021 season.
Fernando Alonso is back, and he already announced his wish for next season – podiums. The former champion with Renault will race for the French team’s new avatar Alpine. Alpine is the high-performance unit of Renault, with the engine continued to be supplied by the latter.

The Spaniard is hoping to share the podium with this compatriot Carlos Sainz, who has made his dream move to Ferrari from McLaren. Interestingly, Alonso has raced for both teams in the past. To get to the podium, he expects more of the Mercedes slip-ups we saw this season, handing Pierre Gasly and Sergio Perez their maiden F1 race wins.
“It is imaginable and it would be a dream to be on a podium with Carlos Sainz. What do I settle for? I have nothing in terms of a specific position. It would be nice to get on the podium. This season, it seemed there were more possibilities than in the past for the other teams, but I am aware those podiums came because of Mercedes disasters.

Is Fernando Alonso the best racing driver of all time?
Fernando Alonso is considered to be one of the greatest in F1, the only man to give the GOAT Michael Schumacher a real run for his money. But it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to call him the best racing driver of all-time. Apart from the two F1 wins, he has won two Le Mans titles, and also the FIA World Endurance Championship. And despite being 39 already, he has his eyes set on the Indy 500 and the Dakar Rally.
“The Indianapolis 500 and the Dakar are the only two events I still have to win. They are at a standstill but not forgotten. I want to win them in the future.”
