For Lewis Hamilton, 2022 would be a season to forget. The 7-time World Champion finished 6th in the Driver’s standings behind teammate George Russell. This was his worst finish to a season since his debut in 2007.
Hamilton was rocked early on with porpoising and was nowhere near the title challenge. As Mercedes improved, his performances improved helping him bag 9 podiums.
But it was far from his 2021 performance, where he lost the title to Max Verstappen by a whisker. Despite the setback, Hamilton feels grateful for his Mercedes family and is confident that the team will produce the best car for 2023.
Lewis Hamilton shares his highlight of the 2022 season
In a recent visit back to Mercedes’s Brackley facility, Lewis Hamilton expressed his gratitude towards his co-workers. The Briton had a heartwarming message where he appreciated the efforts of the entire team.
Lewis said, “I think for everything we were faced with this year, it would have been easy for any one of us to have given up. And I didn’t see that in anyone. Each one of us is so important to get to the front.”

However, Lewis’ highlight of the year would be George Russell’s win in Brazil. Russell’s win was the team’s first win of the year and helped the team summarise the year on a positive note.
Lewis added, “Getting that 1-2 at the end of the year felt incredible. I have never seen a moment when the guys at the track were as happy as then.”
A photo of the entire Mercedes team celebrating the win at Brackley went viral after the race. Hamilton said the image was a very special moment for him too. “Mike sent me a photo of all of you here which warmed my heart.”
Lewis believes Mercedes will be back in 2023
For the first time since his debut in 2007, Lewis Hamilton finished an F1 season without a win. But Hamilton feels the Mercedes engineers have the potential to craft a car worthy of the title challenge.
Hamilton said, “We know we’re on the right track. I know these are really hard times the next couple of months particularly, but that’s when you are the best.”
“This is the one I remember the most” 😅

The Briton is optimistic that the team would use the lessons learnt in 2022 and will be back stronger next year. He adds, “I think we are better prepared now with this difficult year behind us to go into a better 2023!”
Hamilton has been motivating his team members to keep pushing and strive for more. Mercedes did exhibit signs of improvement in the later stages of the season, which should give Hamilton hopes to claim his elusive 8th title in the forthcoming seasons.
