"We’re getting amazing feedback" - Codemasters delighted to receive help from drivers and teams for F1 2021 game

“We’re getting amazing feedback” – Codemasters has received a lot of inputs and feedback for the development of the soon-to-be-released F1 2021 game.

Lee Mather, the Franchise Game Director at Codemasters, was talking to PlanetF1 about the much-awaited F1 2021 game. The game has several exciting additions, the most prominent one being Braking Point, which allows you to start from Formula 2 and work your way up atop the Formula 1 podium. It has also added a Real-Season Start – as the name suggests, you can start the season at any stage with real-time driver and constructor tally.

Mather also revealed the input that has come in from the teams and drivers, an unprecedented move helped by the lockdown before last season kicked off. The likes of George Russell and Lando Norris were very active in the official Virtual Grand Prix series, helping the sport reach out to a larger untouched crowd.

I can’t go into too much detail, but we’ve got a fantastic relationship with some of the teams now.

“One of the big benefits off the back of the first lockdown was that there were a lot of teams and drivers who had a lot more spare time.

“We were able to spend a lot of time discussing things with them, and as that’s continued now with the season back in full force, we’re continuing those discussions, having regular meetings with them. We’re getting amazing feedback, insights into things that we traditionally didn’t have such great visibility of.

“We’ve always had such a great relationship with the teams but now they’re coming to us on a regular basis, wanting to have more input into the game. For the last two years, we’ve had feedback that the handling model is improving every time, it’s getting closer and closer to what they expect.

“I think we’ve seen, obviously in Esports, George Russell jumping straight into a game and he’s still been as impressive in-game as in real life, and I think that’s only possible because the game now mirrors what they’re used to.

“So yeah, we’ve had a great deal of input, and that’s something that we’ll continue to use in future titles.”
