Seven times Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher expressed his sincere admiration for another F1 legend Ayrton Senna. The Brazilian was the driver Schumacher looked up to as an inspiration while growing up.

One world champion speaking about another world champion really shows the legacy Senna left for the sport. In the future, the torch would eventually pass to the German’s generation in terms of greatness.

Michael Schumacher would also get the opportunity to compete with Senna shortly before the latter’s passing in San Monaco. The battle could have peaked not for the infamous accident.

Ayrton Senna passes the torch to a whole new generation of Formula One

The seven times world champion rose to the rank of Formula One in the traditional way. He started driving karts from the age of 12 to competing in Formula 3, Supercar championship, etc.

He got his F1 start with Eddie Jordan’s team before joining Benetton racing. After two world championships with the team, he moved to Ferrari.

It was in the prancing horse that he cemented his legacy as an all-time great. He won five world championships with the team and countless pole positions and wins before Lewis Hamilton broke his record.

Michael Schumacher’s ‘dream come true’ comparison with the Brazilian

Michael Schumacher spoke about worshipping Ayrton Senna during his childhood during the BBC Sports Personality of the year program. A dream come true at all costs for the seven times world champion.

The then 10-year-old Schumacher felt amazed watching Senna drive past opponents with speed and driving sense while driving karts. In the 2000 season, he equalized with Senna on the total number of victories in a season as well.

The Regenmeister was proud of the comparison with his idol equalling his season victories. Speaking about it, he had nothing but sincere admiration for being on the same level as his idol.
