F1 team Ferrari Inside source reveals that Sebastian Vettel was asked to make sacrifices if he had to extend his stay with the outfit.
The F1 world was shocked to learn that Sebastian Vettel would be leaving Ferrari after the end of this season and would be replaced by Carlos Sainz from the following season.
As of now, Vettel has not revealed his plans for the future, but in an article published by Michael Schmidt, according to Ferrari, the German driver was asked to make sacrifices ahead of 2021 to extend his stay.
From Ferrari’s headquarters: “We would have had to ask him to make sacrifices in 2021 that would have been hard for him to accept.” And apparently, Vettel was not ready to accept them.
The sacrifices that Ferrari are referring to are mostly regarding Vettel’s position in the team and his salary. It became pretty evident by the end of the last year that Charles Leclerc was going to be Ferrari’s new number 1.

Moreover, the wages earned by Vettel at Ferrari is around $36 million annually, which makes him the 2nd highest paid F1 driver behind Lewis Hamilton.
Thus, with negotiations failed, Vettel probably decided to leave the Italian outfit. Last year, Ferrari’s lack of clarity on their priority number 1 driver prevented them to make potent decisions which led to blunders.
But Ferrari accepts that Leclerc is their future and they have to give him space to explore his potential. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz is also another promising talent in the circuit and can win podiums for the team.

On the other hand, Vettel is rumoured to join Renault as a spot is vacant over there after the departure of Daniel Ricciardo to McLaren, but wages will be a huge factor to decide, at the same time, Mercedes is also rumoured to be a viable option.
