Carlos Sainz cannot wait to jump the ship to Ferrari once he leaves McLaren at the end of the 2020 season

Carlos Sainz is happy with the recent progress made by his future team Ferrari, as he looks to end his McLaren journey on a high.

It seemed like a move gone through for Carlos after Ferrari were found wanting for pace and performance all throughout the season. But things have improved, capped by a strong double point finish at Istanbul for Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel. This has encouraged Carlos Sainz, who “cannot wait” to see what his new team is up to for the 2021 season.

“It’s been a good few months for them. I think they’ve demonstrated that they’ve probably found a bit the issues that they had at the beginning of the year. They probably were the ones especially not happy about it and they’ve shown good character turning a difficult season around. I’m encouraged to see that and I cannot wait to find out what and why they’ve changed. But there are a few races left still with McLaren and plenty to do here still.”

The testing time for next season is very limited, and Sainz naturally wants to make the most of it. It is going to be the Spaniard’s biggest season in F1 once he takes over quadruple champion Vettel’s seat. But he stressed he is focused on finishing the season strongly with McLaren, starting with the Bahrain Grand Prix at Sakhir.

“Once I leave McLaren to be a Ferrari driver, there will be a lot of thinking behind the scenes to make sure I arrive to the test and to the first race as prepared as possible. Obviously, that could be an option but I remain committed to McLaren and I don’t want to get distracted too much by what the future of January, February, and March would bring.
