“It will be just like the end of a relationship” - Sebastian Vettel pays tribute to Ferrari as he prepares for his Aston Martin journey

“It will be just like the end of a relationship” – Sebastian Vettel says he will miss Ferrari when he moves to Aston Martin next season.

Sebastian Vettel has seen many highs and lows with Ferrari, unlike Red Bull, where it was all about winning titles. It is an open secret that it was the German’s dream to drive the iconic red, following in the footsteps of his compatriot and idol Michael Schumacher. Now, with Vettel set to move to Aston Martin after this season, he discussed Ferrari with Corriere Dello Sport.

“It will be just like the end of a relationship.”

“I will miss the people, obviously the spirit, Ferrari, the legend that has fascinated me since I was a child, inspired by Michael Schumacher. I think they will miss me the most, but the good news is that I will see some of them next year, although in a different guise.”

Sebastian Vettel excited to take on the Aston Martin challenge

It had come as a big surprise when Ferrari announced it will not continue with Vettel beyond 2020. The bigger surprise was to see him replace mainstay Sergio Perez at Aston Martin. But now the dust has settled, and everything is good between the two drivers as seen in the Turkish GP podium. While the Mexican’s future is not yet known, the German is pumped to join his new team and lead them to greatness.

“I think it will be a great challenge. I will have to know the whole team and the pace at which the team is working, to help improve things.”

Aston Martin team principal Otmar Szafnauer indicated they might speak to Ferrari to release Vettel before January. The 2020 season ends with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in mid-December.

“Before that (January), Sebastian is under contract with Ferrari and we haven’t yet asked if they might release him earlier for us.”
