The FIFA U-17 World Cup is scheduled to take place in India in October, and it is being seen as a huge platform for the predominantly cricket hungry nation to spread its wings in the footballing world.
The draw for the tournament, which started at 7pm today in the Hotel Sahara Star, Mumbai, concluded at around 8pm with India drawn with
Former Inter Milan player Esteban Cambiasso and ex-Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu helped with the carrying out of the draw.
From the Indian sporting world, PV Sindhu and Sunil Chhetri graced the occasion. The draw was telecasted on Sony Six, Sony Six HD and Ten 2.
Praful Patel, the head of the All India Football Federation made a huge mistake in the initial address, saying that India had qualified for the 1958 World Cup, when it was actually the 1950 World Cup.
There are 24 participating teams, coming from 6 different confederations. India, the host, will be taking their rightful position in Group A.
