This summer, Real Madrid were in the market to bring in a new Galactico to the club. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez had made it clear to everyone that they would be after the very best football players in the world.

And there was no hotter property than Kylian Mbappe in the transfer market.

The French youngster had an incredible season with Monaco, in which he plundered 26 goals in all competitions.

What made him special was his decision making and the maturity that he showed in his game. Arsene Wenger has gone on to say that Mbappe could go on to become like Pele.

After months of speculation, Mbappe finally joined PSG on a loan deal which would become permanent after one year. With this, Mbappe became the second most expensive player in history, only after his new club team mate Neymar.

Real Madrid were apparently quite close to signing the youngster, which is why they did not spend much money in the summer. Although they had the resources to pay the 180 million fee, Perez felt that the dressing balance would become unstable.

“Buy a player at £180m or £200m?”

“Nothing would happen, it would upset us more than it would help us.

“We had contacts to talk to Mbappé,.

“But finally he chose to go to PSG. He was born in Paris and it is his decision.

“This was the time to bring a great player like him. He had a good offer from Paris-St Germain and he seemed very good.”

Apparently, Perez felt that Ronaldo would have been upset with the decision to bring in someone for such a huge fee.

Cristiano was extremely troubled over the summer, and many people inside the club felt that they could not do anything to add to his annoyance.

Some felt that he might have left the club if Mbappe had been signed. So Real Madrid chose to become cautious.

Now you won’t hear that very often would you?
