Football player gets knife hurled at him during a match in Columbia. The incident occurred while the player was celebrating a stoppage time goal.

Football is bigger than life itself is a phrase that has been churned repeatedly by many. At this point, it has become somewhat of an overused cliché. However, it seems that in Colombia, the phrase holds an entirely different meaning.

Millonarios travelled to the Atanasio Girardot stadium to face Deportivo Independiente. By 90 minutes the score read 1-1 and the match seemed to head towards a certain draw. However, the visiting side managed to find the net in extra time and won the match. The players celebrated the win. However, it almost came at the cost of one of their player’s life.

David Macalister Silva was ecstatic and was celebrating the victory like all the other players in his side. However, an outraged fan took it upon himself to ruin the moment and hurled a knife right where he was on the pitch.

Fortunately for Silva, the weapon just missed him. However, the 32-year old noticed the object that had just missed him. He picked the blunt object and handed it over to referee Carlos Ortega who would go on to quickly pass it to the fourth official.

As crazy as this incident was, similar episodes have occurred in football before. Last year over in Greece a handgun made its way onto the pitch after Paok Salonika’s game against AEK Athens when Paok owner Ivan Savvidis stormed onto the field of play whilst in possession of a gun as he threatened the referee over a late disallowed goal.

This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
