AMD displayed what they had in store at the Gamescom 2023, which is currently taking place in Germany. During the entire showcase, the chip-making company showcased their new array of graphics cards and updates coming to their software.

According to AMD, their new range of graphics cards are able to pull off better performance than Nvidia’s GPU lineup. However, it was their software-related updates that blew away viewers. From FSR 3.0 to the improvements to graphics drivers, the upcoming changes seem promising for gamers worldwide.

The entire presentation was done in both English and Deutsch as the program was hosted in Germany. If you’re among the people who missed the announcement, we have put together this article to highlight everything you should remain up to date about.

AMD claims their new range of graphics cards performs better than Nvidia’s alternatives

During Gamescom 2023, AMD introduced two new graphics cards: RX 7800 XT 16GB and RX 7700 XT 12GB. Both these GPUs are priced less than Nvidia’s current generation mid-high tier cards. This pricing helps gamers pick similar performing cards to Nvidia’s at a lower price, making it a great deal.

The RX 7800 XT 16GB is priced at $499 and has comparatively similar performance to the RTX 4070 12 GB which costs $599. On the other end, RX 7700 XT 12GB is priced at $449 and compares to RTX 4060 Ti 16GB which is available at $499. Both these cards are claimed to provide better performance than their competitor’s counterparts. Gamers can get their hands on these graphics card from September 6, 2023, which is the release date for Starfield as well.

According to their revealed benchmark sheet, most gaming titles perform better on AMD’s cards, although, some exceptions do exist. Incidentally, all the benchmarks were done at 1440p settings with all graphics settings maxed out. While the difference isn’t drastic on Team Red’s latest cards, it is significantly better than what Nvidia currently has on offer. Moreover, the pricing of the newer cards also makes it a bargain for gamers who are in the market for an upgrade.

As a cherry on top, AMD announced their partnership with Bethesda’s upcoming title Starfield. According to them, the game is seemingly performing great on their test bench which is powered by their cards. Additionally, gamers who purchase new AMD cards are guaranteed to get a free copy of Starfield for a limited period.

FSR 3.0 and other software updates targetted towards gamers

FSR 3.0 had been highly anticipated among gamers after Nvidia’s announcement of DLSS 3. After a long wait, AMD has finally announced the feature which will work on all graphics cards and not just AMD’s hardware.

The new feature from AMD will use various AI features that allow it to generate extra frames without losing performance. As a result, gamers would be able to scale up their games high enough with Raytracing enabled and still get decent enough FPS. According to developers, this feature is likely to arrive in the first quarter of 2024. Moreover, the company has tied up with various game giants to develop using FSR 3.0 and help create a better experience for all.

AMD will also introduce changes to its driver software by adding HYPR-RX, which is a one-click solution to game optimization. The Radeon software will be able to suggest the optimal settings to run a game, with high FPS and quality.
