Gautam Gambhir wants selectors to look ahead of MS Dhoni post 2019 Cricket World Cup

Gambhir wants selectors to look ahead of MS Dhoni: The current Member of Parliament was vocal about the legendary cricketer’s future.

Former India opening batsman Gautam Gambhir believes this is the right time to groom the youngsters especially a wicket-keeper batsman. With India losing the semi-final of the 2019 Cricket World Cup, this is indeed the right time to give an extended run to certain players for some specific roles.

While India have been struggling with a No. 4 batsman for quite sometime now, another position which is under consideration is of the wicket-keeper batsman. Speaking in an interview with TV9 Bharatvarsh, former India opening batsman Gautam Gambhir opined on similar lines.

“It’s time to groom the youngsters. Be it Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan or any other wicket-keeper, whoever is believed to have the potential should be made the wicket-keeper.

“Give him chances for one and half-years and if he doesn’t perform, then others should be tried out as well. Then one would get to know who the keeper for the next World Cup is,” Gambhir was quoted as saying.

Being asked about the future of former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Gambhir laid emphasis on “looking into the future”. Gambhir also cited Dhoni’s example of taking practical decisions over being emotional.

“It’s important to look into the future. And when Dhoni was the skipper, he invested in the future. I remember Dhoni saying in Australia that me, Sachin [Tendulkar] and [Virender] Sehwag can’t play the CB [Commonwealth] series together as the grounds were big. He wished for young players for the World Cup. It’s necessary to take practical decisions than being emotional,” Gambhir added.
