Gautam Gambhir's tweet goes viral; takes a dig at ESPNcricinfo for lauding MS Dhoni's 2011 World Cup final six

Gautam Gambhir’s tweet goes viral: The former Indian opening batsman didn’t seem to appreciate an MS Dhoni-related post by ESPNcricinfo.

Former India batsman and current Member of Parliament from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir has taken a dig at website ESPNcricinfo for them uploading a post of former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni hitting the historic six which won India the Cricket World Cup in 2011.

It is worth mentioning that today marks the ninth anniversary of one of the biggest moments in the Indian sporting history for India defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets to lift their second World Cup after 28 years.

Gambhir, who came in to bat at No. 3 in the final, played a vital role in the rescue act alongside Virat Kohli (35) and Dhoni (91*). With the then captain remaining unbeaten till the end, he was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ despite Gambhir (97) scoring more runs than him.

As is the general notion, people tend to not appreciate Gambhir’s contribution in the night of the final. Perhaps it was the same emotion which got the better of Gambhir as he took to social media platform Twitter.

It all began after ESPNcricinfo posted a photo of the winning six on Twitter. “#OnThisDay in 2011, the shot that sent millions of Indians into jubilation,” read their caption.

Quick to react on their tweet, Gambhir pointed out how India won the World Cup on the back of contribution from the “entire” country, team and the support staff. “High time you hit your obsession for a SIX,” mentioned Gambhir in his tweet.
