Twitter goes wild as Mexico upsets Germany in the World Cup
The World Cup 2018 saw its first upset as Mexico beat Germany 1-0.
The 21st edition of the World Cup has seen some of the most exciting matches in recent history. The opener saw Russia battering Saudi Arabia 5-0, while Spain’s game against Portugal was a show of the highest quality in terms of technical abilities and individual brilliance.
And so, when the defending champions entered the field this evening, people expected big things from them. However, their start to the game was unconvincing, as Mexico continued to exploit their high line of defence with constant counter-attacks. The Mexicans were rewarded soon, as Javier Hernandez’s cheeky turn left Hummels and Boateng bamboozled. As he led the attack, Lozano sprints from the left and Hernandez times the pass perfectly for Lozano to cut in and take the shot.
The 22-year old PSV Eindhoven winger beat Manuel Neuer on his right.
However, the German oozed class in the second half, complimented well with the urgency to score. Werner, Kimmich, Kroos and Reus all came close, but failed to put the ball into the net.
Mexico, on the other hand, came close on the counters, like they did in the second half. However, both the sides were unable to add to the scoreline as the game finished 1-0 in the favour of Mexico.
Here are some of the tweets from the match.
Not the first time Germany have overextended themselves and been exposed on the flanks in Russia.

If only Germany had a young, quick winger, with plenty of goal-threat……
Maybe the best young player in the Premier League?

Those stats show that Germany was better at everything, except accuracy. It explains why Mexico is so good at building cars.
