Chennai Super Kings lift their third IPL title with an emphatic victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad.

In their comeback season, MS Dhoni brought the IPL trophy home as CSK beat the Sunrisers in the final of the IPL by 8 wickets. Shane Watson scored a century, as the formerly ridiculed “senior citizens” of the IPL proved that a bit of experience never goes waste.

The Chennai IPL franchise had a fair share of controversy in the initial days when their matches were shifted from the city following a state dispute, which makes it an even special victory for their fans.

CSK won the toss and chose to bowl first in the final. Yusuf Pathan scored a quickfire 45 off 25 deliveries, as Kane Williamson stabilised the SRH innings after a shaky start. SRH finished on 178 runs for the loss of six wickets. Chennai made a poor start and Shane Watson couldn’t score a run in his first ten balls.

However, the 36-year old Australian batsman made a dominant comeback and scored a century in fifty balls as he and Raina led the CSK chase. The pair added 116 runs for the second wicket, and Rayudu finished the CSK chase with a four over covers. This was CSK’s third IPL title in their seventh final.

In his tweet, he congratulated Shane Watson on a terrific century which played a pivotal role in CSK’s victory. He also added that it is time for celebrations at the Chennai Super Kings dugout.
