Harry Maguire injury: Is the Manchester United centreback out for the rest of the season? Maguire missed the Manchester Derby on Tuesday night.
Manchester United’s season has been plagued with injuries and it doesn’t look to end anytime soon after Harry Maguire was seen leaving the Molineux with discomfort. The Red Devil’s best defender joins Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba in the injury list and it seems he is set for a lengthy spell at the sidelines.
How serious is Harry Maguire’s injury?
After the Carabao cup defeat to Manchester City, United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked about the extent of Maguire’s injury. The Norwegian downplayed the issue by suggesting that it wasn’t a very serious injury but he would still miss out on the Premier League match against Norwich this weekend.
“We don’t know” Solskjaer said. “It’s not going to be a long, long, long-term one. So, I don’t think he will ready for the weekend but let’s see.”
However, according to the Telegraph, Maguire has suffered a torn hip muscle. They have maintained unsurety over the duration he will be out for. However, they have suggested that it could be a while before he comes back in action.
Considering, Diogo Dalot and Axel Tuanzebe were out for months when they struggled with hip injuries in the past, one can expect the same for Maguire as well. Muscle tears generally require weeks and even months to heal, taking into account, recovery and rehabilitation.
Depending on the severity of the tear, one can expect to see Maguire out for at least 6 weeks. The worst-case scenario would be losing him for the rest of the season. This would be tragic for a team. Despite their poor defensive performance throughout the season, the backline looks much more solid with him than without him; as was evident during the 3-1 drubbing against their Manchester rivals.
