Chelsea star Eden Hazard confirms he will stay at Chelsea following speculation of a move to Spanish club Real Madrid.

Eden Hazard has been on Real Madrid’s radar since a long time. The Whites made the Belgium winger their top priority following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure. The Chelsea winger had publicly spoken about his desire to play for Real Madrid and dropped bigger hints about his future with every passing day.

After his third place match in the World Cup at Russia, Hazard said that “it might be time to discover something different” and also affirmed that his “preferred destination” was already known to the World Cup. With that statement, it seemed like the end of Eden Hazard at Chelsea with a move to Spain’s capital looking increasingly imminent.

However, the former Lille winger has now confirmed that he will stay at Chelsea, at least this summer and will not leave the club before the transfer deadline this summer. “I’m fine here. We’ll see what happens in a year or two,” he told RMC Sport. “Leave this year? I will not leave. Everybody knows what I said after the World Cup – but I’m happy here.”

The Premier League and Football League voted to shut the transfer window before the start of the English top-flight season, which kicked off on 10 August.

However, the change did not affect European clubs, who can still sign players – including Premier League ones – until their respective deadlines later in the month.

“The transfer window in England is over. Clubs cannot sign players,” said Hazard. “It would be a little odd if they sell me now while they can’t recruit a replacement.”

The Chelsea faithful displayed their love for Eden Hazard when they welcomed him on as a substitute with a warm ovation. He has won two trophies during his time with the Blues and still has two years to run on his contract at the Stamford Bridge. Hazard has added five trophies in his Chelsea tenure over the last six years, but refused to rule out a departure in the near future.
