"I want to stay with Mercedes for 15 more years" - George Russell commits himself to team with hopes of winning the title

George Russell had a remarkable debut season with Mercedes. The Briton achieved the impossible by claiming the team’s first race win with their lone victory in Interlagos. All of this despite a difficult start to the season.

Mercedes had an awful start and were nowhere close to the front of the pack. The W13 suffered from bouncing and a lack of pace.

But Russell adapted to his new car and managed an impressive run of 16 straight races with top 5 finishes until the Singapore Grand Prix.

He managed to beat his experienced teammate Lewis Hamilton finishing 4th in the Driver’s standings. But Russell’s focus is clearly to replicate his teammate’s glory with the team and is committed to staying at Brackley.

George Russell committed future with Mercedes

Geroge Russell has been associated with the Mercedes F1 team since 2016. The Briton was inducted into the team’s junior driver programme in early 2017.

After straight F3 and F2 Championship wins and a 3-year stint with Willaims, Russell was announced as a Mercedes driver for the 2022 season. By winning his first race in his debut year and beating his experienced teammate, he has cemented himself as a future World Champion for Mercedes.

And Russell plans to extend his relationship with Mercedes. The Briton has his vision set on securing the World Championship with Mercedes in the coming years.

When asked about his future, Russell sees him nowhere but with Mercedes. He said, “I see myself being with Mercedes for the remainder of my career.”

“If I look, where do I think the best place is for myself over the next 15 years? I think Mercedes is the best,” he adds.

Russell claims Mercedes ready to fight back in 2023

George Russell and Lewis Hamilton endured a tough start to the season. But the initial setback only motivated the duo to fight harder to claim vital points and podiums.

Russell admits that it was a turbulent year for the team. The win at the Brazilian GP was a great note to end the season. And a sign that the team will push for more success in 2023.

He stated, “We’ve endured one tough year, but when you look at the progress we’ve made, it’s been pretty impressive to see how we’ve closed that gap.

Russell is confident that the Silver Arrows can bridge the gap to Red Bull and Ferrari and will be back in the title race. He adds”There’s no reason why we can’t continue to close that into 2023, and hopefully, overtake our rivals.”

Mercedes have work to do before the season begins if the team intends to return to the front of the grid. But having a potential like Russell at their helm would make the challenge a bit easier for the team.
