Imam-ul-Haq and Azhar Ali run-out: Watch Pakistani batsmen involved in hilarious mix-up vs Northamptonshire On This Day in 2018

Imam-ul-Haq and Azhar Ali run-out: The two Pakistani batsmen unintentionally put on display a hilarious run-out back in the day.

On this day in 2018, Pakistan opening batsmen Azhar Ali and Imam-ul-Haq were involved in a hilarious run-out which saw the former walking back to the pavilion after scoring 10 (11).

It all happened on the fourth day of Pakistan’s tour match on their tour of England against Northamptonshire in Northampton. Chasing a 133-run target, Haq had played a delivery on the leg-side but both batsmen were hesitant of running the single which was there to be run.

After the initial hesitation, Haq and Ali decided to take the run but destiny saw them colliding midway on the pitch. After falling down, both the batsmen got up to run to their respective ends.

It was at this time that a direct-hit found Ali short of his crease at the striker’s end. Had it not been for the hesitation and the collision, the batsmen would have completed the run easily.

The unfortunate dismissal didn’t really affect the course of the match on the last day as Haq (59) and Haris Sohail (55) scored individual half-centuries to register a 9-wicket victory in 27 overs.

As far as the other Pakistani players are concerned, spinner Shadab Khan registering a 10-wicket haul and batsman Asad Shafiq scoring a daddy hundred in the first innings laid the foundation of their victory.

It is worth mentioning that Azhar Ali went on to be part of another hilarious mix-up (this time with Shafiq) during the Test series against Australia in the same year.
