India World Cup team 2019: Indian selectors named a 15-member squad for the showpiece event which will commence next month.

The selectors of the Indian cricket team have named a 15-member squad for the imminent ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The development has cleared the air regarding the three debatable spots in the Indian squad – No. 4 batsman, reserve wicket-keeper and a spin all-rounder over a fourth fast bowler.

In the contest between Dinesh Karthik’s experience and Rishabh Pant’s X-factor, the selectors have picked experience for the reserve wicket-keeper’s spot. With Ambati Rayudu not been named in the squad, all-rounder Vijay Shankar appears likely to play at No. 4 for India.

After losing the ODI series (2-3) against Australia last month, a “sorted” India captain Virat Kohli had disclosed that the team is yet to discuss one spot for the World Cup. Perhaps, it was regarding choosing one out of an all-rounder or a fourth fast bowler.

Addressing the same, the selectors have picked Ravindra Jadeja over a fourth fast bowler. As far as the reserve opening batsman is concerned, the Indian selectors went ahead with Lokesh Rahul.

The all-important tournament is slated to begin from May 30 at Kennington Oval, London. India will play their first match against South Africa on June 5. India have earlier won the World Cup twice – in 1981 and 2015.
