After the culmination of the second Test between India and West Indies at Hyderabad, India are scheduled to play five ODIs and three T20Is against West Indies. In the recent days, there have been numerous murmurs regarding the team selection of the limited-overs squad.
Captain Virat Kohli and wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s two key players, have allured a plenty of opinions regarding their position in the side. Giving rest to Kohli and trying out inexperienced players in place of Dhoni has been the talk of the town.
With India winning their last ODI assignment in Asia Cup last month with a rookie squad, do not expect too many surprising changes for the series against West Indies. Whether the selectors will choose the squad for the first-three matches or for the full five-match series at once, it will be cleared in the times to come.
India’s Predicted Squad Against West Indies
1. Batsmen – In which forms a formidable opening pair, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are likely to be retained in the ODI team. With both of them not part of the Test squad, resting them is highly unlikely especially in the absence of Kohli.
India will continue to juggle the middle-order spots between Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik and Manish Pandey. As and when the necessity will arrive, the reserve opener in Lokesh Rahul will be available to open the innings.
2. All-rounders – With Kedar Jadhav injured and no news whatsoever on his recovery, Ravindra Jadeja seems to be the lone all-rounder in the squad. Since the last Test against England, Jadeja has been in sublime forms across formats.
3. Wicket-keepers – Jadhav’s absence might just witness the gates opening for Rishabh Pant in the ODI side. In which will be his maiden ODI call-up, it does not necessarily will have to come in place of Dhoni for the 37-year old wicket-keeper can continue to don the wicket-keeping gloves. If both of them play in the same playing eleven, Pant might as well play as a specialist middle-order batsman.
4. Bowlers – The pacer-duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah will continue to share the new ball for India. Siddarth Kaul and Khaleel Ahmed will play the role of the reserve pacers. Deepak Chahar might face the axe for the selectors are likely to select a 15-member squad.
Given the way Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav are bowling at the moment, you can hardly see anyone pinpointing fingers on their place in the team, especially in the Indian conditions.
Predicted ODI Squad against West Indies – Rohit Sharma (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Lokesh Rahul, Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, Manish Pandey, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (wk), Rishabh Pant, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Khaleel Ahmed, Siddarth Kaul, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.
