The Indian selectors had earlier announced a 14-member squad for the first two ODIs against West Indies. In which wasn’t entirely a full length squad, it managed to defeat the opposition comprehensively by 8 wickets.
With the second ODI scheduled to be played at Visakhapatnam tomorrow, the squad for the last three ODIs will be announced either after tomorrow’s match or on the day after tomorrow.
Among the big changes, expect a break to captain Virat Kohli and opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan. In Kohli’s absence, his deputy in Rohit Sharma will lead the team as he had done successfully during the Asia Cup.
India’s Predicted Squad for the last three ODIs against West Indies
1. Batsmen – At the top of the order, India will enjoy the services of captain Rohit Sharma and Lokesh Rahul. Prithvi Shaw, who was adjourned the ‘Man of the Series’ in his debut Test series earlier this month, is highly likely to be slotted into the ODI side in place of Dhawan.
Manish Pandey is all in likeliness of walking into the playing eleven as Kohli’s replacement. Talking about Kohli’s replacement in the squad, if fit, all-rounder Kedar Jadhav should be given a go for he remains a vital member for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
If Jadhav doesn’t attain full fitness for the third ODI, Dinesh Karthik might well be roped back in to the squad. Although in a losing effort for India A in the Deodhar Trophy today, he scored an impressive 99 (114) against India B at Delhi.
2. Wicket-keepers – Former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni will continue to perform the duties behind the stumps. Rishabh Pant, who made his debut in the first ODI at Guwahati, is expected to be given more chances to press his case in the ODI team.
3. All-rounders – In Hardik Pandya’s absence, Ravindra Jadeja is most likely to continue performing the dual responsibility of an all-rounder.
4. Bowlers – With Ravindra Jadeja by their side, the spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav are likely to be rotated throughout the series.
In the fast bowling department, India might look to bring back Bhuvneshwar Kumar for he hasn’t played much cricket of late. Making him play a few matches ahead of the tour of Australia is likely to bolster his confidence.
Bhuvneshwar can replace anyone out of the existing bowlers in Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Shami or Khaleel Ahmed. Clarity regarding which will be known after the fast bowlers’ performance in tomorrow’s match.
India’s Predicted Squad for the last three ODIs vs Windies – Rohit Sharma (c), Lokesh Rahul, Prithvi Shaw, Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni (wk), Rishabh Pant, Kedar Jadhav/Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, any three out of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Shami and Khaleel Ahmed.
