ISL 2019 Transfer News: World Cup 2010 star Asamoah Gyan joins NorthEast United FC in the Indian Super League. The announcement was made on Thursday.
Indian actor John Abraham’s co-owned side, NorthEast United FC have a huge following in his country. The Indian Super League side however, have no trophies to show for yet. That could all change though after the blockbuster signing recently announced by the club.

Ghanaian forward, Asamoah Gyan has been signed by the club based in Guwahati and will now play for them in the upcoming season of the ISL. Gyan will fill the void left by the departure of Bartholomew O’gbeche.

The 33-year old is a well-known name in football having turned out for clubs such as Ligue 1’s Rennes and Sunderland from the Premier League.
The Ghanaian is his country’s most capped player with 107 appearances. He has played in 4 FIFA World Cups. Gyan was also named the captain of his side in 2014 where he became the top goal scorer in the tournament’s history for his continent.
He has scored 51 times in national colors. Gyan has been equally prolific at club level, finding the back of the net 212 times in 409 appearances. The club will benefit immensely from his wealth of experience.

Speaking on the signing, NorthEast United’s Executive Director, Priya Runchal said;
“We are thrilled to have a player of Gyan’s caliber and experience join our squad. He has continuously delivered excellence at the highest of levels of world football and we are confident that he will add a lot of firepower on the pitch here.”
Asamoah Gyan, said,
“I am extremely excited to start this new chapter in my career. I’ve heard great things about NorthEast United FC and the Indian Super League and I am thrilled to be a part of it for the upcoming season. I am confident that we can better the wonderful season the club had last year.”
Gyan is the latest in a string of signings by NorthEast United, including Maximiliano Barreiro, Subhasish Roy Chowdhury and Kai Heerings. It remains to be seen though, if the veteran can inspire the Highlanders to their maiden ISL title.
