The striker urged people to follow COVID norms
Although the Coronavirus pandemic is slowly retracting and exiting the land of India, a handful of states continue to remain battered by the disease. Across the course of the last year, more than a crore people in the country have fallen prey to the pandemic, a list which includes some notable names as well.
Joining the pile of illustrious names to be detected with the disease was Indian football team’s captain, Sunil Chhetri. The 36 year old striker took to Twitter to divulge that his report for the disease had come out positive recently.
Sunil Chhetri Issues Twitter Statement
The striker took to Twitter to reveal his positive report as he shared a tweet affirming the same.
“In a not-so-happy update, I’ve tested positive for COVID-19. In better news, I feel fine as I continue my recovery from the virus and should be back on a football pitch soon. No better time to keep reminding everyone to continue taking all the safety precautions always,” Sunil tweeted.
Sunil was recently involved in the Indian Super League with him plying his wares for Bengaluru. However, he endured a listless season with his drab performances playing a fair role in his club ending up in a sorry seventh position in the league stages.
Sunil was named in the 35 man probable list of players to partake with the Indian side on their upcoming couple of matches. The player is currently in self isolation after testing positive for COVID19.
ISL Final
While Sunil and Bengaluru were bundled out of the reckoning for the Indian Super League glistening trophy, Mumbai meanwhile managed to repose the faith earmarked in them. The league leaders defeated Goa 6-5 on penalties in the semi-final to ensure their safe passage into the summit clash to be held in the upcoming couple of days.
