Ronaldo on Sir Alex Ferguson: The former Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo speaks on Sir Alex as he returns to Old Trafford.

Old Trafford is gearing up to welcome its former superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, as Manchester United face Juventus in the Champions League.

The Portuguese footballer played six seasons at Manchester United, during which he won three Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy, as well as his first of five Ballon d’Or awards.

This would be his second return to Old Trafford in club football. He last played here with Real Madrid in the round-of-16 of the Champions League.

As Ronaldo interacted with the media before the game, he talked about the club, and Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ronaldo on Sir Alex Ferguson:

Cristiano Ronaldo spoke about his time at Manchester United and the role of Sir Alex Ferguson in his formative years.

“It’s a hugely emotional thing for me to come back,” said Ronaldo.

“When the draw was made I thought about how much I enjoyed my time here, all the trophies I won and the love everyone showed me, especially Sir Alex Ferguson.”

Ronaldo talked highly of his former manager, stating that he helped him become what he is.

“It is special for me to return to Manchester. Here I have many memories of victories and affection and in particular with Sir Alex Ferguson, to whom I send a big hug. He is a person who helped me so much.

“He’s a person I’ll never forget,” said Ronaldo.

Earlier, Ronaldo said that Sir Alex is like a father-figure to him.

“In the beginning of my career he was so important to me because I moved from Sporting to Manchester and I had that Portuguese mentality – too many stepovers, decision-making was not the best.

“So he taught me how to do it. You know, in the Premier League they don’t fall over so easy, they are tough.

“As I’ve said many, many times, he taught me everything. He was like a father to me. He helped me a lot at Manchester United.”

What next?

Jose Mourinho’s side will aim to bring its campaign back on track with a win against the European giants. Manchester United are currently second in their group, with a win over Young Boys, and a 0-0 draw against Valencia.
