The Netherlands took on Sweden in the Semifinals of the World Cup. The game was not separable in 90 minutes and has gone to the extra time. There were some good offensive movements in the game, but the defence has stood up to the task.
During the first half, after a bit of goal-mouth scramble, van Veenendaal managed a kick-save on a close-range effort from Hurtig to keep her side level. In the second half, Swede came close to taking the lead, but the ball struck the crossbar. When Fischer unleashed the ball from the outside the box, the ball hit the post and the Dutch shot-stopper cleared the ball away.
Miedema tried a looping header, but it was tipped over the crossbar. It was excellent save to keep her side in the game. The game went down to extra time and the Netherlands took the lead in the 99th minute.
Groenen runs into a loose ball just outside the box and struck a right-footed shot across the goalkeeper and into the bottom-left corner of the goal. It was an extraordinary finish as they move an inch closer to a final setup with the United States.
