Javier Hernandez tells his father that the European Dream is over in an emotional phone call

Javier Hernandez tells his father that the European Dream is over in an emotional phone call following his transfer to LA Galaxy.

Javier Hernandez completed a move to MLS side La Galaxy recently. The forward was the first Mexican to play for Manchester United and scored 20 goals and winning the Premier League in his debut season. He has also spent a season at Real Madrid.

The forward has one of the most prolific history in the Premier League goals in terms of goals per ratio. Sevilla would be the last European club he would ply his trade for. However, a very emotional footage from before he joined LA Galaxy has emerged and it shows how emotional he is realising that he is nearing the end of his career.

In the video, Hernandez tells his father:

“It’s almost certain that I’m going to LA [Galaxy].

“Everything is perfect dad, it’s only that… well it’s like the beginning of my retirement you know?”

“We are retiring from the European Dream.”

His father attempts to reassure Hernadez but the 31-year-old continued to explain himself.

“I know dad but look, what I mean is that we’re saying goodbye to a career that we put a lot of effort on.

“I know you guys feel it and we’re gonna look at the bright side and it’s going to be amazing.

“But it was 10 years, that’s what making me nostalgic and cry. It’s not that I can’t do it, it’s just saying goodbye to this beautiful experience and to a part of me that’s no longer going to be there.

“Also, this is another dream, it’s different, of course, but it isn’t easy. But we’re going to be closer, I’m going to see you guys a lot more.”

Some have criticised the Mexican forward for likening playing in the MLS to an early retirement. However, that isn’t what Hernandez seems to be griping about. It is evident that he is finding it hard to come to terms with the fact that he is nearer to the end of his career than he is to the start and for someone like Chicarito, who always wore his sleeve on his heart when playing, this is an extremely painful emotion for him to deal with.
