Javier Mascherano asked to choose between Liverpool and Barcelona. The Argentine has played for both teams in his successful career.
Javier Mascherano’s time at the Anfield helped him develop into one of the best midfielders in the world. His performance for the Reds eventually took him to Spain where he spent 8 trophy laden seasons. He became an integral component of Pep Guardiola’s treble winning side.
Interestingly, after winning the Champions league final against Manchester United, Mascherano dedicated the win to Liverpool fans, whom, he acknowledged, were not pleased with the manner in which he left the club. However, very few could blame him for the transfer.
Liverpool were far from the side they are today. The team could not match his desire and ambitions on the field and the move only came as a surprise to the Anfield faithful. Regardless, it appears that the 3 and a half years he spent at Merseyside really left an impact on him as he chose the Reds over the Blaugrana when asked which team he preferred.

Speaking to CNN, Mascherano said: “I obviously have a lot of love for Barcelona, I spent the best years of my career there but I would choose Liverpool.
“I feel something special for them. Yes, right now is the best in the world, Liverpool represents me a lot.”
Mascherano spoke about his regret leaving Liverpool the way he did back in 2017.
“When I left Liverpool it wasn’t good for me, and I didn’t like it” He said according to Liverpool Echo.
“I didn’t like having the feeling that I could go back to Liverpool and there was still something toxic there. And I don’t want the same thing to happen to me at Barcelona.”
