Juan Mata: Man Utd offers new deal to midfielder but Mata's father hints at move away

Man Utd transfer news: Juan Mata’s father has confirmed that Manchester United has offered a new deal to the midfielder.

There have been significant discussions over the contract situations of some of the key players at Old Trafford.

While the likes of Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay and Phil Jones signed long-term contracts with the club, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and David De Gea are yet to put pen on paper for new deals.

Herrera confirmed in an interview with Spanish media outlet ABC last week that there has been a mutual disagreement between the two sides over contractual issues.

While the club triggered De Gea’s one-year extension earlier this season, Juan Mata will be a free agent at the end of the season if he fails to agree to a new deal.

Juan Mata’s father, meanwhile, has confirmed that Manchester United offered a new deal for the Spanish star.

Man Utd transfer news: Juan Mata to leave?

Juan Mata Sr. has revealed that Manchester United offered a new contract to the midfielder, but Mata is still in the process of deciding his future.

“Manchester United have offered to renew us, we are very happy,” Mata Sr. said.

“But there are proposals from Champions League teams.”

The player’s father hinted at a move to Spain, but categorically ruled out a move to Manchester City or Liverpool.

“Spain, maybe, but today is not the day to talk, it is not yet decided. There are two options that do not [appeal]: Liverpool and City.

“We have to respect the Manchester United fans, he is held very dear here.”

Juan Mata joined the Old Trafford outfit in January 2014, for the-then club record transfer fee of 37.1m pounds. During his time at Manchester United, Mata played in 212 games across all competitions, scoring 44 goals.

He lifted the FA Cup, the Europa League and the EFL Cup with United.
