Real Madrid announced Lopetegui as the new head-coach of the club yesterday.

In a bizarre turn of events, Spain have sacked Julen Lopetegui as the manager of the national team a day before the World Cup begins in Russia.

The Spain’s FA, and the association’s president Luis Rubiales in particular, is furious with his appointment as Real Madrid head coach. Rubiales didn’t like the way with which Lopetegui has handled the situation.

Lopetegui signed a new contract with Spain’s national team just 21 days ago until 2020. However, an offer from Real Madrid was too good to turn down for Julen Lopetegui.

The Spain FA’s president Luis Rubiales was “deeply upset” with the “betrayal” from Julen Lopetegui, in not telling the Spain FA about his communication with Real Madrid, according to Mirror.

Rubiales said,

“We have decided to fire the national coach. What we have achieved in getting here is due in great part to him, and we must thank him and wish him luck.

The Spanish national team is the team of all the Spaniards. We only found out just five minutes before the announcement that he was leaving for Madrid.

There is a way that you must act. Julen has worked in a great way with the team, but we cannot accept how he has acted in this case.”

The decision on who will lead Spain in the world cup is yet to be made.
