Despite getting off to an impressive start in IPL 2019, Kings XI Punjab lost track of the tournament midway in the season. While losing track after making successful inroads is nothing new for them, it has started to become frustrating for both fans and players.
Having last qualified for the playoffs in 2014 (runners-up), Kings XI have since finished at seventh (2015), seventh (2015), fifth (2016) and seventh (2017) in the points table.
Having won four out of the first six matches, Kings XI had given the impression of giving a tough fight to the other teams throughout the season. Having said that, them losing five out of their next six matches have called for another below par Indian Premier League season.
With five victories in 12 matches, Punjab are currently at No. 7 in the points table. Despite losing out on steam in the second half of IPL 2019, KXIP still have a chance of qualifying for the knockouts.

KXIP playoff chances
If KXIP win both their matches…
Punjab’s best chance of entering the playoffs lies in winning both their matches and hoping that Sunrisers Hyderabad don’t win any of their remaining two matches. If that happens, Punjab won’t even have to think about their Net Run Rate.
If the above mentioned happens, today’s match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, Saturday afternoon’s fixture between Delhi and Rajasthan Royals and Sunday evening’s fixture between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders will become inconsequential for Punjab.
If SRH win against MI tomorrow…
While this clause will doubtlessly make things difficult for Punjab, they will still have a chance of qualifying for the playoffs. The maximum number of matches which Punjab can afford to lose is one and the maximum number of matches which Punjab can afford for Hyderabad to win is also one.
If SRH defeat Mumbai Indians tomorrow, Punjab will have no option but to win both their remaining matches. Despite the above said, things will go down on Net Run Rate for Punjab and Hyderabad. If SRH beats MI and Punjab loses to Knight Riders on Friday, KXIP will no longer be in contention for the playoffs.
