La Liga president Javier Tebas has made an explanation about Ronaldo’s departure from Barcelona.

La Liga President Javier Tebas is a publicly confessed Real Madrid fan. The exit of Real Madrid’s talisman Cristiano Ronaldo would have hurt him as much as it did the Madridistas around the globe. In a latest interview, the Spanish league’s president has spoken about what could be the “real” reason for the 33 year old’s departure.

Cristiano Ronaldo was no exception to the long list of players who have gotten into tax troubles during their tenures in Spain. The Portugal international had also been accused of tax evasion. Javier Tebas thinks that fiscal laws could be the main reason as to why Ronaldo left Spain. Italy’s tax laws are much lighter than Spain.

Via Mundo Deportivo, he said: “Ronaldo has gone for a fiscal issue. In Italy, due to the new regulations, it will charge more net of the gross than in Spain. Real Madrid had a hard time competing with that and there will be more reasons, but that’s a very big one,” he said.

But he has no concerns Ronaldo’s departure will affect the revenue of La Liga.

“A few years ago I would have worried about losing so many stars at once, maybe a nine out of ten. Now, with the brand image we have, I worry about 4 out of 10. ”

Ronaldo was a part of a sub-par World Cup campaign as was expected after an explosive start. Similarly, his rival Leo Messi was also out in the round of 16. However, Ronaldo’s misery was soon made happiness as he transferred to Juventus.

Even though the 5 time Ballon D’or winner has changed pastures and gone to Italy, comparisons with Messi are certain to be on. The Portuguese has gone to write his name in the books of a third European league, while also adding a Euro 2016 to his international collection.

On the other hand, Messi has been a Barcelona product and not a major international with Argentina. This is what people think tips the “greatest of all time” debate into Ronaldo’s favour, while there are equally a high number of people who favour the Argentine.
