LeBron James ‘The Decision’ to air on Sunday; Catch ‘behind the scenes’ footage in his infamous move to Miami Heat.
The 4-time NBA Most Valuable Player, LeBron James featured in a documentary that aired live on ESPN 10 years ago called ‘The Decision’ in which he infamously announced his decision to join Miami Heat as a free agent and leaving his hometown club Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron said that he is “taking(his) talents to South Beach” to join Dwyane Wade and co at the Miami Heat.
LeBron James’ move to Miami explained?
ESPN will go behind the scenes of the television special in their docuseries Backstory to provide a more in-depth look at one of the most polarizing and shocking free-agent decisions in the of the sport.
The episode will feature the lead up to the “The Decision” and bring a more in-depth view of the then 25-year-old James, coming off two consecutive MVP seasons, going into free agency and signing with the Miami Heat and leaving his hometown, and the backlash that followed that decision and the widespread criticism that James received from the fans that once used to worship him.

The documentary aired back in 2010 received a lot of criticism and hate for Lebron and ESPN as well. But the documentary had a far-reaching impact on LeBron and those around him and it started a trend for sports athletes to tell their own stories and it also helped LeBron have a voice in important issues beyond the basketball court and a source to inspire young people from all over the world after that.

LeBron has always actively raised his voice in racial campaigns and even now is working with organizations to take the Black Lives Matter movement ahead.
What to expect from the ESPN Docuseries?
New details that will be relieved during the documentary includes how and when the idea was pitched to ESPN for the making of “the Decision” and how the plans were set into place. How former NBA commissioner David Stern wanted to cancel the show as it gave a great amount of power to a single athlete and how James returned to Cleveland in 2014 and led them to the NBA title in 2016.
The show airs on Sunday, 28th June 2020.
