Lingard-Martial injury update: The attacking duo picked injuries during the Champions League clash against PSG.
Manchester United suffered their first defeat under Ole Gunnar Solskjer’s tenure against PSG in the midweek.
Goals from Presnal Kimbembe and Kylian Mbappe secured a 2-0 victory for the visitors. Solskjaer’s side received a further setback in the game with injuries to Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, and a red card for Paul Pogba.
While the Frenchman is now ruled out for the second leg at Paris, the speculations over the return of the injured duo gathered pace as United prepares for FA Cup clash against Chelsea.
Manchester Evening News (MEN) now reports that while the injury isn’t serious, Lingard and Martial are unlikely to feature at Stamford Bridge.
The attacking duo suffered muscle injuries during the game against PSG and was forced off the pitch at the end of the first half.
Lingard and Martial’s injuries are not serious but they’re likely to miss United’s game against Chelsea. #mufc [MEN]

De Gea didn’t have to make a single save in the first half. We’ll never know what would’ve happened if our game plan didn’t go out of the window with the injuries to Lingard and Martial. We can see what our players are made of this month though.

MEN further reports that the coaching staff isn’t inclined to rush the duo into playing against Chelsea as it could risk further aggravation of the injury.
Manchester United will host Liverpool in the Premier League next weekend and would want their first-choice attackers to be fit for the game. As the reserve attackers are suffering from inconsistent form, Solskjaer would prefer Lingard and Martial for the heavyweight clash.
Alexis Sanchez’s disappointing run continued against Paris Saint-Germain as the winger only completed 15 passes in the game. He came on as a substitute for Jesse Lingard at the end of the first half.
Romelu Lukaku has not scored for six weeks, while Juan Mata’s limitation with pace has made him a mismatch for Solskjaer’s style of football.
Lingard and Martial have been involved in 10 of #mufc‘s 28 goals under Solskjaer.
Since both players are reportedly ruled out of our FA Cup tie against Chelsea, who would you like to see replace them in the XI? pic.twitter.com/Ucqzd2i9mL

I say this absolutely 100% wholeheartedly. I would much rather we get Gomes, Chong and Greenwood in, and they make a mistake or two vs Chelsea and Liverpool than persist with Sanchez, Mata and Lukaku

Martial and Lingard major doubts for Chelsea and Liverpool games with Mata and Lukaku on standby for both games. Use Chong and Greenwood for ffs! Lukaku and Mata are done

Fans have been calling for Solskjaer to introduce the youth players in the game against Chelsea, including Mason Greenwood and Tahith Chong. The latter made his debut for the club last month in the FA Cup third round against Reading.
