Wijnaldum’s highlights from Netherlands decimation of Germany shows how vital he is to Liverpool’s PL title hopes as they chase a maiden winner’s medal.

Liverpool have been transformed into a champion side under Jurgen Klopp. Long considered sleeping giants, they are now European champions and are currently chasing their first Premier League title.

Klopp has made stars out of several of his players who were mostly unknown before their arrival. The likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane etc are now household names. However, there is one player, who for all his class, is criminally underrated.

Gini Wijnaldum has silently played his part in the Liverpool setup. Always efficient, he plays his role to perfection without making a lot of noise. However, he let himself go against Germany and showcased exactly why the Reds value him so much.

Germany opened the scoring in the 9th minute of the match. However, Frenkie De Jong equalised for Netherlands in the 59th minute. An own goal by Jonathan Tah gave the Dutch side the lead in the 66th minute before Tony Kroos drove a penalty to the net to score the equaliser in the 73rd minute. After that it was the Gini Wijnaldum show all the way through.

Wijnaldum’s accurate pass

6th minutes after Germany equalised, Wijnaldum set up Netherlands’ 3rd goal by giving a very accurate pass in the box. Donyell Malen made no mistake and scored to give them the lead back.

Germany Vanquished

Germany then chased the equalizer and passed the ball around looking for space. However, the Dutch side stood firm and did not relent. They eventually found the ball and set up an immediate counter. Wijnaldum finished the demolition by scoring a well-deserved goal in the first minute of Injury time.

Wijnaldum makes Germany dance to his tune

In between all the goals and assists, there was a moment in the match when Wijnaldum made three Germany defenders dance to his tune as he used his body to retain the ball.

Wijnaldum’s efforts gave Netherlands their first win in Germany since 2002 and won him the Man of the match. His performance has proven his calibre and Liverpool and their supporters will hope he replicates this performance when he returns to the Anfield after the international break.
