The CB is all set to become Liverpool’s first addition come the summer
Fraught by injuries this season, Liverpool have seen their aspirations to retain the Premier League trophy be seriously rankled. The backline in particular has come under severe scrutiny after long term injuries to Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip.
While Liverpool did try to lesser the brunt of the blow by brining on Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak in the winter, the club is clearly not done in the department. The side has been working on identifying players who are capable of adding the much needed solidarity to the side’s defensive setup.
Konate On Cusp Of Liverpool Switch
And it looks like the side’s hectic efforts have finally born fruit with the side nailing on RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate as the name to bolster their ranks. The Bundesliga defender is all set to become Liverpool’s first signing come the end of the ongoing season.
According to the Athletic, Liverpool are in the final stages of completing the deal for Konate. The Premier League side is set to activate Konate’s 34 million pound release clause, one which will not see them be required to engage in negotiations for the defender.
The transfer would leave RB Leipzig paper thin at the back with CB Dayot Upamecano having previously agreed a deal with Bayern Munich.
Although injuries have left Konate on the sidelines for a large part of the season, the CB is considered as one of the brightest talents in Europe. The player’s ability to win aerial duels as well as embark on searing runs in attack are set to have added value to his stock,
Konate has meanwhile only featured on 15 occasions for RB Leipzig this term with an ankle injury keeping him out for a large period. The player’s lengthy list of injuries is bound to raise some questions over his transfer.
Liverpool are also said to be looking at signing Kabak permanently from Schalke. The player who is currently on loan at Liverpool will cost the Premier League side 18 million pounds.
