The Reds have reportedly made a £158m bid for the Real Madrid midfielder, Marco Asensio.

Spanish outlet ElGolDigital earlier claimed that Marco Asensio is eager to see if he is effectively involved in Julen Lopetegui’s plans for the next season. Now, Premier League club Liverpool seem to have triggered their interest in the Spanish midfielder.

Asensio has become an important member of Real Madrid’s first team this season, after joining the club in 2014. After spending two years on loan at Mallorca and Espanyol, Asensio made a place in the side and established himself as a regular figure in the midfield, and even as a winger.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool have made a £158m bid for Marco Asensio. It is reported that Liverpool are pursuing the Spanish player after a deal for Lyon midfielder Nebil Fekir fell through. Fekir was heavily linked with Liverpool ever since the transfer window opened this summer, however Lyon later confirmed that the deal has failed.

Asensio currently has a £616m release clause at Real Madrid.

The Spanish footballer earlier talked about the speculations surrounding his move to Liverpool. “Liverpool? When the World Cup is over, we’ll talk about that sort of thing, now I’m focused on selection for Spain,” he said.

Asensio is representing Spain as the team chases World Cup glory in Russia. Spain topped their group and have reached the round-of-16 of the World Cup, and will now face host nation Russia in the knock-out round.

The latest reports from Mundo Deportivo claims that Real Madrid have rejected the £158m bid from Liverpool for Asensio. It is also been suggested that Asensio is happy at Real Madrid and is looking forward to play under new manager, Julen Lopetegui.
