Ilkay Gundogan has made a huge statement about Liverpool’s title challenging credibility.

Ilkay Gundogan has labelled Liverpool “very lucky” with the results over the past few months because of the late goals the Reds have scored, most recently against Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur. He believes that Manchester City are playing much better football than his former boss’ side and says that they will give everything to win the rest of the games to lift the Premier League for the second time on a trot.

The Reds are two points ahead of Manchester City currently, having played a game more than Pep Guardiola’s side and are hopeful to end the title drought at Merseyside. A win will take the Citizens over Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Gundogan is optimistic about securing all 18 points in the forthcoming games.

Speaking to the press, the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder said “Liverpool are desperate to be champions. They want to win the Premier League more than the Champions League. But everything is in our hands. I think we have played the better football. We were seven points behind them and then we went ahead of them.

“If we win our game in hand, we will go past them and be the leaders. We shouldn’t forget that. I think they have been very lucky in the past one or two months. They have scored a lot of late goals recently. Everything is in our hands. If we win the last six games then we will be champions.”

Liverpool and Manchester City are also positive about their chances in the Champions League, following the exit of Real Madrid who lifted that prestigious trophy three times on a trot.

The Reds comfortably overcame FC Porto 2-0 at Anfield, whilst Manchester City are 1-0 down to Tottenham Hotspur in the Quarterfinals of the competition, and play the second leg in front of their home crowd next week.

“We feel as a team we are ready to win the Champions League,” talking to Turkish media outlet Fanatik.“We know we’re a very good team. But sometimes you have to be ready 100% for that day.

“This season is good for us. We won the League Cup, now we are going to play the final in the FA Cup. We are the leader in the Premier League. I think we can take every cup this season.”
