N'Golo Kante Injury Update: Will Chelsea midfielder take part against Liverpool in Super Cup?

N’Golo Kante could be a doubt for Super Cup clash after picking up an injury against Manchester United.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard confirmed about N’Golo Kante’s injury which he picked up against Manchester United. The French International came on against the Red Devils in the second half, but that change did not alter the game anyhow.

It was not a bad performance and 4-0 scoreline is a harsh reflection for the Blues. They had several chances in the opening minutes of the game, but the Reds Devils were totally clinical by finding the back of the net four times.

Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic started as defensive midfielders in the previous game and Lampard was on the verge of slotting Kante into the starting eleven. However, the midfield is likely to remain the same because of the injury he picked up on Sunday.

Lampard said: “Kante was purely [on the bench] because he had an injury. I am very aware of how important he is.

“He picked up another small injury in the game, so we are assessing that.

“I pick the best team to win the game, regardless of age. [Mason] Mount deserves his chance on merit, I won’t fear to play young players.

“In terms of how we set up, I really liked some of our aggressive off-the-ball work. We have to be adaptable and respect the strengths of our opponents.

“There may be subtle changes of our approach.”

Lampard reiterated that Kante could miss the game, while confirming the presence of Willian and Antonio Rudiger on the bench.

He added: “Kante has a small injury and I will make a decision with that with him.

“Willian and Rudiger are here and they are in different stages.

“Willian is not far from fit, to put him in a high intensity match is tough. He will be working through this week on fitness. Tomorrow he will be on the bench. Similarly with Rudiger.”
